I tried updating the Asus motherboard drivers, re- seating the cable, uninstalling the USB drivers, but nothing worked so I sent it back and got another Asus board, this time the upgraded B85M-E/CSM. My external hard drive won't get power and nothing mounts. I didn't do a clean Windows install because everything was working fine.except the front USB 3 ports. I condemned the board and swapped it out with an Asus B85M-G R2.0. After a hard reboot, screens stayed black and no activity whatsoever. All of a sudden, fans spun up to warp speed, screens went all funky with psychedelic colors, and the system froze. Last month the motherboard went out pretty spectacularly while I was swapping around monitor cables. I have a Pavilion 500-267c I use at work.
